WHO IS STACY RITTER?

Broward County Commissioner and Vice Mayor Stacy Ritter was elected to the Broward County Commission in November of 2006 after years of community involvement as and activist and an elected official. Stacy began her community involvement directly out of college. Organizing for local causes and candidates eventually lead her to run elective office.

Stacy’s career in the Florida legislature began in 1997. Her tenacity and legislative know- how was paramount to her peer’s when they elected her as the Chair of the Broward County Legislative Delegation in 2001. Stacy served the people of House District 96 through 2004 when term limits required her to relinquish her house seat.

The transition to county policy was a natural fit for Stacy.

She had already chaired the Broward County Management and Efficiency Study Committee from June 2004 to June 2006 and had played a central role for the county as a state legislature. Her 2006 election to the County Commission District 3 was followed by her reelection to a full term in 2008.

Stacy is a member of the Broward County Planning Council and Fire Rescue Council as well as the official liaison between city and county governments. As a member of the Florida Association of Counties, she serves on the Board of Directors as well as Co-Chair of the FAC Growth, Environmental Planning & Agriculture Committee. She is additionally a member of the National Association of Counties Transportation Steering Committee.

Stacy wears her political activist hat as host of the RITTER REPORT that can be heard on WFTL 850 AM every Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Her guests include local elected officials, party activists and political professionals. The RITTER REPORT has played host to numerous national political figures including Democratic Presidential Nominee Senator Barack Obama.

Although numerous groups and organizations have recognized Stacy for her service, she is especially proud of being inducted to the Broward County Women’s Hall of Fame and being named as the Sierra Club Legislator of the Year, Woman of the Year by the American Jewish Congress and a First Lady of Broward.

Stacy was born in Washington D.C. in 1960, and moved to Broward County in 1974. A graduate of Piper High School in Sunrise, Stacy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, and her Jurist Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern College of Law.

Stacy and her husband, Russ Klenet, live in Parkland with their three children, Matthew, Scott, and Stephanie. She enjoys Broadway theatre, traveling with her husband, needlepoint, and boating.
